Synopsis

The Best in the World is an independent drama/comedy shot in France and Senegal. Told in French, English, Fula, and Wolof, the film follows Mouctar, a young Guinean migrant navigating life in Paris. When he joins a non-profit theater workshop, the trauma of his past surfaces—forcing him to face the truth behind his flight from home. This intimate debut feature explores migration, memory, and healing across continents and cultures.

What they left behind follows the story of two fatherless West African migrants, B & S, who live together for four years in Morocco while struggling to support their entire families. After their clothing business is shut down by local authorities, they decide to make the perilous journey to Europe. Before leaving, B makes a choice that draws a rift between the two young men, and they are separated in France. Will the brotherhood they developed in Morocco survive the journey?

This film aims to show reactions of audiences to the feature film “Le Meilleur du Monde”. It will include interviews with the film’s main actor, director of photography, and director about the process of making the film, footage from Q&As on the festival circuit, and reactions from audience members in France, Guinea, and the United States. It will further explore the following themes covered in the movie: Social media falsely portraying Europe to West Africans, Forced begging in Senegal, the migrant experience in Europe, and the mental health of social workers. It will be released on the Non-Profit’s Youtube account and Website in October 2026 and reposted by West African influencers for maximum reach.
