International migrants make up an estimated 3.6% of the world population, or 281 million people (IOM, 2020). These people face specific challenges while migrating, in their host countries, and upon their return home. They also face persecution and othering by the media, governments, and people in their communities. The percentage of migrants is growing and will continue to grow (IOM, 2024). It is imperative that we support the people aiming to seek a better life for themselves and their families amid global environmental, economic and political crises, and educate those around them to strive for a more inclusive, harmonious, and just society. I believe that migrants represent the best of us: the strongest, most courageous, and most moral. Yet they are often mistreated and misunderstood.
